English Language Arts Activities

Alphabet Action Students click on the letters, hear the letter name and see an image of an object that begins with that letter, along with the name of the object
ABC Match Match initial letters with pictures while alsousing memory skills to remember where cards are.  Students work their way through three increasingly difficult levels, each with more pairs of cards.  The game offers two modes of play, one timed and one not, as well as the option to hear the names of all the pictures.

Construct-A-Word Provides a simple, engaging way for students to generate dozens of different words by first choosing an ending (for example -an, -ed, -at, -op) and then adding a beginning letter or blend.  When a correct word is created, the word is stored in a word bank where students can read and review their words.

Story Time Stories with Dolch words are read to students. Students can go back and re-read the stories themselves.  Stories can also be printed for more reinforcement of words. Three levels of stories are available
Make Your Own Story Appropriate for all grade levels.  Students create their own story by selecting key story elements such as:  character, setting and action.  Other activities include students writing their own story using a logical sequence of events and describing the setting, characters, objects and events in detail. Students can also access stories to listen to for inspiration.


Grammar / Comprehension Activities

 Word Sort For beginning and struggling readers to help them recognize word patterns and learn about onset and rime.  Students are first asked to select a vowel, and are then presented with a series of words to sort into short-vowel word families.  Students can then print their completed word family chart and use it to practice reading the words fluently
Literacy Center A great site for Pre-K to first grade.  Activities with colors, numbers, letters, shapes and words.  Site can be translated in Spanish and other languages.  Also has typing component in the keyboard section.
